How long should you wait after applying Scotts weed and feed?
Scott weed and feed are normally applied to a damp lawn so the powder will stick perfectly to the leaves.
Give the combined fertilizer-herbicide ample time to react fully on the lawn, and avoid tracking it into areas where it could be harmful.
After the application of Scott weed and feed on your lawn, it should be left alone for at least 24 hours or more. Make sure your kids and pets are restricted from the area during those hours.
How to apply Scotts weed and feed [ Additional tip]:
- Before applying Scotts weed and feed, check the weather forecast. Rain should not be forecasted for at least 24 hours after applying the fertilizer.
- Do not water your lawn after applying Scotts weed and feed.
- Be mindful of when the weather is windy before applying this fertilizer-herbicide combination, there’s a possibility that it will be blown on ornamental plants and shrubs.
- The grass should be slightly wet from the morning dew before applying the fertilizer, if not, sprinkle some water on the grass before applying.
- Set the gauge on the spreader according to the setting gauge chart on the bag of Scotts Weed and Feed. The spreaders have settings on them to control how much fertilizer is dropped. The correct setting will be listed on the fertilizer bag.
- Fill the hopper with fertilizer. Fill it while on a sidewalk or driveway as you do not want to get a concentrated amount of fertilizer on the lawn should you spill some.
- Apply the fertilizer following the directions on your spreader. Do not overlap your application as it will apply too much fertilizer in one area and there is a possibility of burning the grass. Do not stop in one spot with the release lever open, as this will also send a concentrated amount of fertilizer in one spot–burning the grass.
- When the lawn is complete, sweep away any fertilizer that has gotten on the sidewalk or driveway. Also, rinse out your spreader and allow it to dry.

How long after weed killer can I water?
Why do you think your lawn is not giving the result you expected even after a series of treatments? Stop and think, have you been doing it all wrong?
Do you spray your lawn with weed killer and then water it for the next 20 or 30 minutes? You don’t wait until the leaves are dry?
Bear in mind that treating your lawn in this manner will yield little or no results.
It is advisable to water your lawn the next day after the application of weed killer to allow your lawn to fully absorb the weed killer and carry out its job. This way you’ll get the best result.
Additional tip;
There are lots of ways to water your lawn, from sprinklers to smart watering solutions. Here are some methods to use;
- Pulsating sprinklers (water guzzlers): These shoot water horizontally at a high velocity so the water isn’t affected by wind.
- Hose-end sprinklers: Great for small- to medium-size lawns. There are many different types, so you can choose the one that fits your lawn best.
- In-ground sprinklers: These can sprinkle water in the most efficient pattern. Sprinklers that are low to the ground and have a horizontal spray pattern yield the best results.
- Smart watering systems: There are different types of smart watering systems, and most systems integrate with in-ground sprinkler systems. Many have controllers that allow you to schedule watering using your smartphone and also use real-time weather data to automate watering so you don’t have to think about it.
