There is always something about plants that have more than one colour pigment on their leaves, the way it draws and attracts a person to them is fascinating, isn’t it?

Well, the coleus plant has proven to be one such plant. A native of the equatorial border,  this perennial shrub is popularly known as fame nettle has one of the most beautiful colour combinations on its plants.

The colours range from orange-red yellow purple blue pink etc becoming different shapes and patterns too.

As most perennial plants are, it is somehow difficult to determine what shade or weather condition best suits their growth.

In this article today we’re going to discuss coleus plants or shade-loving plants or sun-loving.

What Coleus plant Is Good For Full Shade?

Shade-loving coleus with solid leaf colouring may include the following?

    1. Lava flow coleus: this is a shade-loving deep purple plant with bright red pigmentation.
    2. LifeLime coleus is also a  full shade-loving plant with chartreuse foliage.
    3. Krakatoa coleus is a full shade-loving plant with its purple and olive green pigmentation.

What Coleus Plant Likes The Sun?

During cool climates, the coleus plant will require full sun to grow and thrive, they need at least 6 hours of full sunlight to grow,  some varieties may include Henna, Red Carpet, Box Office Bronze.

These types of coleus grow abundantly in full sun. Most coleus love a mixture of both sun and shade, most prefer sun early in the morning and then during the afternoon, they are kept in shades.

    Are All Coleus Shade Plants?

Not all coleus are shade plants, on the contrary, most coleus plants need at least 4 to 6 hours of full sun to grow.  Irrespective of that, some coleus plants are shade-loving.

Coleus plants with dark coloured leaves tried more Under the Sun while those with bright colours leaves and pigmentation are shade-loving.

Knowing this will make it easier to identify what type of coleus is present within our reach.

Other varieties of full sun-loving coleus are those that are propagated and hybrid varieties,  while seeded varieties are both shade-loving coleus plants and full sun.

Are There Full Sun Coleus Plants?

Most coleus plants require full sun to partial shade to grow. The coleus plants must be kept Under the Sun for at least six hours to prevent the coleus plant from wilting or drooping and for them to be in partial shade. It should have acquired a daily Sunbath.

Before growing coleus plants in your garden or indoors, make sure that the coleus seeds variety purchased is adaptable to the amount of sun the coleus plant will be exposed to.

What Are The Different Types Of Coleus?

Why Is My Coleus Losing Colour?

Coleus plants always do well in the sun for a few hours, when the sun exposure gets too much the coleus plants will start losing their highly pigmented colour. To better say, coleus plants do not like too much sun.

Symptoms of overexposure will exhibit indications to show signs such as loss of colour,  wilting, fading of older leaves, drooping and light pigmentation

If you want to ensure that your coleus plants are looking energetic when in full sun, drop the old vegetation for new ones to grow out and, and more colourful leaves to emerge. You might want to correct the sun exposure to meet the optimum sunlight requirements to prevent the loss of colour.

    Coleus Plant Sunlight Requirements

Most coleus plants expect approximately 6 hours of sunshine in the early morning hours while the shade will be preferred during afternoon periods.

This doesn’t work for all because sometimes the varieties may determine if or not the plants will do well under full sun or shade

Keep in mind that for you to get the colouration, an adequate amount of sun exposure and small amounts of shade will be required by the plant.

In conclusion; now that you are aware of these coleus varieties above, why don’t you get a coleus plant to add to your boring green-looking house plants, remember that variety is the spice of life.

I can assure you that if coleus plants are grown in your garden,  you will not just brighten up the area but also attract people or customers that are willing to purchase these plants, so what are you waiting for?
