    11 Types Of White Succulents To Grow

    Succulents are considered to be thick fleshy plants whose plant tissues are designed to store water in their leaves or some cases, the plant stems.  

    Succulents are Specifically designed to withstand heat, that is why most succulents are drought resistant and can grow in deserts. 

    White Succulents are always attractive to the eye, some succulents change colour to White when they bloom while others are natural White. In this article,  we are going to consider eleven( 11)White Succulents and how these plant ornaments benefit us.

    Types Of White Succulents 

    Although there are many types of white succulents, I’ll be discussing 11 of the most common white succulents below.

    1. White cloud
    2. White Fox
    3. White rose 
    4. Lola echeveria 
    5. Woolly selection
    6. Arizona
    7. Peruvian old lady cactus
    8. Snowflake 
    9. Tri color jade
    10. White Ghost
    11. White sprite 

    1. White cloud 

    Also known as “Echeveria cante”,  the white cloud is a stunning succulent that is a must-have in your White succulent collection.  This plant consists of blue-green thick leaves that have a white but powdery coating on the leaves. If cared for, they can grow up to 16 inches and bear yellow flowers during summer.

    Growth Requirements for White Cloud

    • Since they are drought resistant,  watering should be carried out more during summer and spring.
    • Water the plants and not the rosette
    • They require full sun to partial shade.
    • Water plants only when they are dry
    • Sandy,  fast-draining.

    2. White Fox

    Also known as the White Fox is a perennial succulent plant that is a native of Africa, thick leaves consist of green leaves that have distinctive white marks on the leaves, hence the name aloe White Fox.

    Like most succulents, the white fox is drought resistant and can endure harsh climates. The growth requirements of the white fox include.

    • Soil type: sandy, grit well-draining soil. 
    • Planting pots should have holes to drain water 
    • White foxes can grow and thrive in full sun to partial shade. Artificial bright light can also be used.
    • Propagation should be done by cutting. 

    3. White Rose. 

    As the name implies, this succulent plant has the shape of a rose with thick fleshy leaves.  The plant has a silver-blue coloured rosette.  Also known as hybrid Echeveria, this plant can grow up to 4 inches in size. The white rose will thrive if these conditions are met:

    • Sun: require partial shade and six hours of the morning sun. 
    • Watering:  plants should be watered once a week in summer. 
    • Potting soil: needs sandy soil and grit and well-draining soil. 

    4. Lola Echeveria

    The Echeveria succulent is native to Mexico and Central America, it is a combination of Echeveria lilacina and Echeveria deresina which when crossbred gives rise to Lola.

    The Echeveria Lola belongs to the “rosebud” shaped species, and as such, the green leaves have streaks of pink, and light blue. And eventually, the plant will produce bell-shaped flower stalks with white taints on them.

    In other for this plant to thrive well, the following conditions have to be met :

    • Partial sun- mostly indirect sunlight and bright light with proper airflow.
    • Climates- It requires hardy to zone 9 weather climate  20°F
    • Well-draining soil- It thrives in cacti soil which allows water to drain fast and helps to improve airflow. 
    •  Watering- It only needs water when the soil is totally dry.

    5. Woolly Senecio

    This hairy succulent is identical in appearance to different Senecio except it has a felt-like covering on its leaves.  The woolly Senecio is a native. When the Woolly Senecio blooms, it produces vibrant yellow flowers to South Africa and can grow up to about 12 inches tall.

    Woolly Senecio thrives when:

    • plenty of suns and adequate watering method is carried on the plant
    • Well-draining soil is very crucial to their survival. 
    • This plant is easily reproduced from stem cuttings.

    6. Arizona

    The Arizona Snowflake is a small elegant cactus, with an average height of four inches at maturity. They possess green stems, which can be difficult to see beneath the thick layer of white spines because these stems are about one inch in diameter.

    Some problems they have to include:

    1. Long exposure to water needs to be avoided because these cactus plants are drought-loving or drought-resistant 
    2. Most Arizona cactus grows in clusters, so it can be easily reproduced from the many offsets it generates.
    3. The plants can develop root rot in a matter of time if constantly allowed to sit in moist soil for too long. 

    7. Peruvian old lady cactus 

    The Peruvian Old Lady Cactus is an interesting little perennial succulent plant that can grow up to 12 inches in height.

    The leaves usually grow vertically and that’s why it is called columnar.  The spines are a golden yellow colour and their white hue comes from the thick, wool-like coating.

    For the Peruvian old lady cactus, the following should be adhered to ;

    1. They need full sun and very small water. , So it doesn’t need much moisture, especially in the winter.
    2.  It does not tolerate either very cold or hot temperatures, so it must be safeguarded in severe temperatures.

    8. Snowflake cactus 

    The  Snowflake Cactus is a chalky white succulent that is native to South Africa and grows in clusters. Snowflake cactus has a ribbed stem that is white with green undertones.

    The stems of the Snowflake cactus can reach up to five feet in length and four inches in diameter.

    To care for the snowflake cactus, you need to:

    •  Protect it from ice and severe heat. It grows best in either partial sun and with occasional watering or full shade.
    • Ensure that the soil is fast draining
    • The Snowflake Cactus can be hard to develop from seed, so it’s best reproduced from cuttings.

    9. Tricolour Jade plant 

     Tricolour is a perennial succulent plant that has huge, rounded leaves in a green and white variegated structure.

    The Tricolour Jade can grow up to eight feet tall but the plant won’t thrive during long periods of drought like many other cacti do. 

     But when the plant is pruned,  can be kept tiny to grow comfortably in a tiny pot. 

    Growth requirements for jade plant

     The Tricolour Jade succulent is a considerable option for competent and incompetent gardeners likewise. They need

    • This plant thrives gradually and prefers partial sun and adequately draining soil. 
    • It’s also incredibly easy to propagate from cuttings.

    10. White Ghost 

    Which plant is called the white ghost cocktail because it lacks chlorophyll-a pigment that is necessary for the formation of photosynthesis? It has a triangular stem that grows in a candelabra arrangement and is encircled by small spines. In ideal conditions:

    •  The White Ghost can grow up to ten feet in height if we’ll care for it, make sure the soil is fast draining.
    • White ghost  should be dampened with water  when the soil is dry
    • It is best propagated from cuttings.
    • White ghosts plant cannot thrive during long periods of drought-like other cacti do. 

    11. White Sprite 

    This very rare white sprite is also known as Dudleya gnoma, it is a white succulent plant that has triangular leaves with a white ghostly-like appearance, forming a rosebud rosette.

    It can grow if the following conditions are met 

    • Sun exposure- it loves  full to light sunlight shade
    • Temperatures- hot temperatures and deserts. It can also grow in moist winters.
    • Infrequent watering- water the plants after every two  weeks
    • Cultivation -it should be grown as an indoor plant in a fast-draining soil mixture.

    What Is The Easiest Succulent To Grow?

    Some succulents that are easy to grow for beginners include:

    1. Jade plant
    2. Christmas cactus
    3. Hens and chick’s 
    4. Burros tail
    5. Zebra plant
    6. Aloe vera plant
    7. Crassula ovata

     How Do I Find Out What Kind Of Succulent I Have? 

    It can be difficult sometimes to identify a succulent, but things note basic features such as leaf shape and colour.  Some specific signs to look for in succulents are.

    • Leaf colour
    • Leaf shape
    • Hair and spike on the plants. Etc.

    What Is A Fuzzy Succulent?

    The fuzzy plant is also known as the Woolly Senecio, it is called the fuzzy plant because it has hairy or Woolly skin with bristles all over. 

    How Long Do Succulents Live?

    The life span of succulents depends on the variety of species,  some can live for a year or two and some species can live for centuries or hundreds of years. 

    Some species of succulents and their life span are stated below 

    Plant succulents Life span
    Jade100 years
    Aloe 10-25 years
    Christmas cactus25 years and above
    Living stones 45 years and above
